Demonstrator

Living Lab – Telematics Showroom

Showroom for Smart Homes and Ambient Assisted Living

The demonstrator showcases connected assistance systems in a realistic model living space and allows visitors to experience the interplay between smart homes and ambient assisted living in a tangible way. In addition, social robotics and human-technology interaction are presented as the interface between people and the digital environment.

Challenges
The demonstrator addresses the growing need for support for independent living and brings digital assistance systems to life in realistic domestic and everyday scenarios. At the same time, it creates a testing environment in which complex technologies can be not only described in abstract terms, but also demonstrated and tested in practice.

Relevance
Digital assistance systems are becoming increasingly important for older people’s homes, in supported living arrangements and for support in everyday life. They can help to combine comfort, automation and needs-based support, thereby also indirectly relieving the burden on relatives and care professionals. At the same time, there is a great need for accessible demonstration and testing environments to make new technologies comprehensible, testable and assessable for public institutions, research partners, companies and end-users.
The showroom is designed as a ‘test-before-invest’ environment in which complex assistive technologies can be demonstrated, tested and discussed in terms of their practical benefits in a realistic domestic setting with low barriers to entry.

Our solution
The demonstrator is used to realistically demonstrate smart home and ambient assisted living technologies in a home-like environment. Furthermore, it supports the testing of new technologies, the transfer of knowledge into practice, and the exploration of the possibilities and limitations of digital assistance systems.

How does it work?
Users can experience sensor technology and automated processes within the room, as well as understand and test typical assistance scenarios in a realistic domestic environment. The showroom is designed as a transfer and demonstration platform that makes complex technology accessible to a wide audience.

Technologies
Smart home, ambient assisted living, sensor technology, actuators, voice-based control, building automation and human-robot interaction. Specific technologies from: HomeAssistant, ESPHome, Homeatic, Aqara, Shelly, SwitchBot and Aldebaran Robotics, using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee and Matter.
